Stories of Hope, Healing, & Happiness
"We value people and the paths they walk."
There are literally millions of websites devoted to acupuncture, and Chinese Medicine. Definitions can be found here, there, and everywhere. But to our team at Rocky Coast Family Acupuncture, no one can communicate the true meaning of acupuncture better than the people who have experienced it personally.
So, we asked our patients what acupuncture means to them. Here is what they had to say:
Aileen
"Acupuncture is... STARTING A FAMILY. It's realizing I can get pregnant, time focused on my entire well-being, and a healing relationship. And, I cannot disregard that, to me, it's Jason and Beth. I have such high regard for them. I couldn't imagine going anywhere else."
Aileen knew beyond a shadow of a doubt was she wanted to be a mother. What she didn't know was the solution to her infertility, which was "undiagnosed." Aileen endured five years of medical procedures, tests, scans, and treatments. Then, one day, a physician offered acupuncture as an option. Aileen took him up on idea and credits this decision as one of the reasons she is now the proud mother of twins.
From the moment Aileen stepped foot in Rocky Coast Family Acupuncture and met Jason, she knew it was exactly where she wanted to be. She immediately felt listened to and said it was like a paradigm shift in the world of infertility, right down to the change in language. Aileen credits acupuncture with helping her get pregnant and so much more. She appreciates having had support during the "low times" and knowing people cared about her entire life.
"I tell people to go to Rocky Coast Family Acupuncture because of its warmth, the sense of connection, and the level of client care. Frankly, I also tell them to go because the treatments work."
Eva
"Acupuncture is... An hour of meditation for someone who never meditated. It's clarity, a break from everything, a time to think. It's therapeutic for every part of life. It's something I never knew I needed so badly and now cannot live without."
Eva vividly remembers the crippling effects of her eczema, which ranged from sleeplessness to the inability to coordinate her car keys in order to drive. The disease was literally taking over her life. She suffered every single day for years.
She recalls her high hopes after finally getting an appointment with a world-renowned physician, who was sure to help. He didn't. Eva sank physically and emotionally. Everything changed on a dime during her first visit to Rocky Coast Family Acupuncture, where she found health care professionals who cared and helped her heal.
Today, Eva continues to receive acupuncture treatment every week. This, coupled with light treatment, has literally eradicated her eczema. She is appreciative beyond words and loves now focusing on her overall wellness. She's even recruited her grandmother as a patient!
I tend to be very transient. But now I've been in Portland for three years, and the one thing that would keep me here is Rocky Coast Family Acupuncture. There is no substitute. Acupuncture has really changed my life.
John
"Acupuncture is... Jason's friendship, hope of healing, freedom from prescription drugs, and the joy of deep relaxation. It is a way to liberate the body's natural healing paths. It really is HOPE."
John began acupuncture six years ago, about the same time he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. John still looks forward to acupuncture every Friday morning and considers the treatment a real gift. He goes right after yoga and considers treatment "an extension of savasana." The practice of savasana is the yogic way of letting unwanted elements within us die, thereby empowering us to surrender to life. John experienced "intense relaxation" during treatment, and he credits acupuncture with helping his progress.
What he appreciates most about acupuncture, however, has little to do with physical rewards. Indeed, John cannot emphasize enough the value of conversation, friendship, connection, and caring that he receives at Rocky Coast Family Acupuncture.
The act of paying attention is really what I look for in the care I seek. Jason is very in tune. He and I click as human beings, which is probably the most important thing to me.
Angela
"Acupuncture is... Wanting to run out of the clear blue, realizing there's life without pain, and taking an hour to myself each week. It's my not knowing how it works, just that it works. It's dialogue, friendship, and healing. It's energy and calmness all in one."
Like many clients, Angela first went to acupuncture in pain. On top of a history of migraines, she was recovery from brain surgery. She considered herself blessed but was, at the same time, struggling to come to grips with the reality that wellness seemed beyond reach. That was then; this is now.
Today, Angela fills her days with looking for bugs with her two boys, writing, working, and traveling at every turn of the corner – a far cry from a year ago when there were days she couldn't get out of bed. Angela jokes that she's addicted to acupuncture, but as the old saying goes, "Humor is always based on a modicum of truth."
Every time I leave acupuncture, I take something with me. I always leave revitalized, grounded, and grateful. It's like going to therapy for body, mind, and spirit."
Krista
Krista faced what is an unfortunately common medical issue in our society: high cholesterol. She was shocked by the diagnosis. After all, she was among the 20-something crowd. How could this be? Krista didn't have the answer. But, she did know this: taking medications to improve her health was not the course she wanted to pursue.
Based partially on the recommendation of a friend, Krista started going to Rocky Coast Family Acupuncture, a place she describes as "wonderful, warm, and safe." Krista admits that she was anxious in the beginning because she is hesitant to let her guard down with strangers and didn't like needles. These obstacles became null and void almost instantly; openness, trust, and lightness replaced them.
Krista's cholesterol went down almost immediately. Her overall well-being rose. And after two years of treatment, Krista still makes time for acupuncture every other week. Today, it's simply part of who she is.
In our society, everything is so fast. Acupuncture has taught me to slow down. To look at myself, listen to what's going on with my body, and pay attention to the mind and body connection.
